A born-and-bred mid-western boy, Peter Liptak is a poet, world traveler, avid cyclist, and lover of language. Unlike most English majors, he actually made use of his degree teaching English to children and adults in South Korea over the last 20 years, as a private tutor, preschool teacher, and adjunct professor at Incheon University and eventually creating the publishing company Exile Press with its imprints Little Bear Books and Hungry Dictator Press.

Exploring his interests at the University of Minnesota, from the wonders of Astronomy and Anthropology to Philosophy and Poetics, Peter learned new skills as a preschool teacher, waiter, dance instructor and massage therapist in school and has worked as an actor, teacher, copywriter and author since. While working and living in Seoul, Peter completed a Master's in Korean History, and using Korea as a source of inspiration, linguistic and otherwise, penned several books including the controversial book of Korean Slang: As much as a Rat's Tail, translated the scathing graphic novel The Great Successor - Kim Jong Un: a Political Cartoon, created the Idiom Attack series of ESL textbooks as well as passion projects including an Art/Poetry book called Letters: Building an Alphabet with Art and Attitude and a series of children's early readers about the lovable Teddy LeBear, including Teddy's Day and Teddy's Camp. Now living in Minneapolis with his three little ones and lovely wife, Peter continues publishing various works, while pursuing copywriting at The Writer’s Ink, and does web development, video marketing and lead generation for various local businesses through his new business Leadgen Legends.

Peter loves to say "Woo Hoo!" and knows that the simple experiences in life hold the greatest adventures. You can follow Peter at www.peteliptak.com or petespoetry.com

"Woo Hoo!

4.0 out of 4 stars An excellent and comprehensive guide to English idioms!
"...and it is even informative to native English speakers. It gives lucid definitions and examples of how to and when to use certain idioms, allowing for a non-native English speaker to quickly feel comfortable with spoken English. Furthermore, the graphics are warm and inviting, fostering a sense of comfort when learning. This isn't a dry and somber textbook that feels like a drag to get through. This book is living, fun, and exciting. The dialogues, examples, and pictures all combine to create an enjoyable learning environment. The intelligibility of this book is also a huge plus. Not only is everything written in a very clear, concise manner, but everything is organized logically and coherently. If you are looking for a certain idiom or a certain category of idioms, you will have no problem finding what you are looking for. Overall, this book is excellently composed and a great resource for an English-language learner. I would not only recommend, but I would implore learners to pick up this book. I give this title a 4 out of 4, and I do not say that lightly. This book is deserving of every point it gets"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool!
It’s a very useful book. I like the many examples and the good organization of the book; it’s easy to read and learn from. The color makes it stick out from other textbooks, too. I would recommend this series to anyone learning English. It really helps you understand everyday English phrases.

4.0 out of 4 stars A great book to introduce to any ESL class!
"Reading Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Trad. Chinese Edition) was actually more insightful than I thought it was going to be. As someone who considers English as their first language and Chinese a mere third, I was trying to get into the head of someone who had to come from Chinese ideologies. There were actually a lot of phrases I did not think were considered idioms but after seeing them in this book, realized that they may not have been as straightforward as I initially thought.

As a supplementary material for an ESL class, I think this book would be great. It has exercises with answers, a short story per chapter involving the different idioms, and even some guide questions that can facilitate more conversation between students. That being said, this book might be a little harder to use if you are just studying English on your own.

Each category or theme of idioms is presented in the same format, with a sample sentence written in traditional Chinese with the idiom placed in the sentence in English. This is then translated into a full English sentence then the definition of the idiom, sometimes with a synonym and/or a remark pertaining to the origin of the idiom. I think these synonyms and remarks are especially important as it gives the reader more contexts on the idiom.

After these sample sentences comes the short story. While grammatically correct, I think there needs to be some warning for students that these idioms are not normally used all together like how it is done in the story... As long as it is explained to the learners that idioms should be used more sporadically, I think this is okay.

After every 5 chapters there’s a crossword puzzle you can do which involves all of the idioms you have learned in the said 5 chapters. Some of the hints are just definitions; some of them are fill in the blank statements. All in all there is enough variety in the exercises to ensure the reader can understand the idiom in different ways, however a thing to note is that all the exercises, apart from the short story itself, is in complete English, which can pose a problem to some people as they may not completely understand the sentences. There is an occasional translation for specific words but the reason for choosing these specific words to be translated is not clear.

...I rate this book 4 out of 4 as an introduction to commonly used idioms in the English language. Its editing is pretty well done and the explanations are clear both in Chinese and in English. All the exercises use the idiom quite well, and the discussion questions are split between ensuring the reader understood the use of the idiom and starting an English conversation with another person. Again, this is a great book to introduce to any ESL class."

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great learning tool
This is a great learning tool. Not only does it provide multiple examples of these idioms in English sentences, it also has fill in the blanks and crosswords to help you learn how to use them. These exercises and the CD make the book stick out (look, an idiom). This means you see the idioms, you hear them, and you practice using them. I’m glad there’s a second book to this one.
